Witness Follows Hit-And-Run Driver, Alerts Sheriff

A hit-and-run driver's escape was foiled when a witness followed the driver and alerted the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

RIVERVIEW, FL – A hit-and-run driver’s escape was foiled when a witness followed the driver and alerted the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Jaime Castellano, 27, is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries and driving with a suspended license after reportedly hitting a bicyclist Wednesday, June 6, at Symmes and East Bay roads in Riverview, according to the sheriff’s office.

The bicyclist, who has not been identified, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.

According to the sheriff’s office, Castellano, of 12113 Fawn Dale Drive in Riverview, was traveling west on Symmes Road near East Bay Road. The bicyclist was crossing Symmes Road when Castellano reportedly struck him. The man flew off the bicycle and Castellano fled the scene.

However, a witness followed him to a mobile home at 11305 Cujoe Lane and alerted the sheriff’s office. Castellano was arrested there at 8:15 p.m.
