All five Doris Italian Market & Bakery locations in South Florida are once again supporting the American Cancer Society – Making Strides Against Breast Cancer this October. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, $1 from every pink and white frosted cookie sold will benefit the cause. Over the years, more than $16,000 has been raised.

"We all know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer," said John Alfano, president of Doris Italian Market & Bakery. "As a family-owned and operated local business, we take pride in supporting the communities we are part of."

Making Strides hosts nearly 150 fundraising walks nationwide to raise money for research, treatment and more. Locally, Making Strides of Broward County will take place at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise on October 17, and Making Strides of Palm Beach County will take place at Sunset Cove Amphitheater in Boca Raton on October 24. To learn more about the cause and sign up for a walk, go to ascevents.org.

The organization provides resources and a supportive community, including a 24/7 helpline, one-on-one cancer patient support services and video chats for breast cancer survivors, metastatic breast cancer thrivers, caregivers and families.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 324,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year — yes, men can be diagnosed with it too. There are more than four million breast cancer survivors living in the U.S. today and more than 150,000 breast cancer patients are living with metastatic disease.
