Work recently completed on two major projects within our City. The NE 5th Avenue Sidewalk Improvements project was completed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) ahead of schedule, and the Innovative Sustainable Infrastructure Program (iSIP) SW 12th Avenue Upgrades Project wrapped up just in time for the 2021 Palm Beach County school year to begin.

The NE 5th Avenue Sidewalk Improvements Project on behalf of the City of Boca Raton was recently completed by FDOT on August 12, 2021. Work began on January 11, 2021, with an original anticipated completion date in Fall 2021, but was completed months ahead of schedule.

The scope of work was a 1.1-mile stretch of NE 5th Ave from Boca Raton Rd to State Road 5/US-1 and included:
- 6-foot concrete sidewalk installation on the west side of NE 5th Ave
- Driveway, curb and gutter replacement to align with new sidewalk installation
- Minor signage and pavement marking upgrades
- Minor landscaping relocation and irrigation repairs

As part of the City of Boca Raton’s iSIP project, major upgrades have been completed along SW 12th Avenue consistent with the reopening of Addison Mizner School. The collaborative project between City Municipal Services and Utility Services Departments included infrastructure upgrades and enhancements installed along SW 12th Avenue from Camino Real to Palmetto Park Road. Project upgrades include:
- Shared-use sidewalks
- Shade trees
- Restored swales
- Enhanced lighting
- Improved traffic flow at Royal Palm Road
- Upgraded water and sewer utility mains
The project took five months to construct. Minor adjustments and upgrades will continue to be made by the contractor over the next month.
