City Of Boca Raton: Your Property Taxes Explained

Beginning the week of August 23, 2021, property owners in the City of Boca Raton will be receiving a mailed notice regarding proposed tax rates. The City’s Your Property Taxes Explained brochure is intended to educate residents on how their tax dollars are distributed and used.

Why Do I Receive This Notice?

Florida law requires each County’s Tax Collector to send one consolidated tax bill to notify each property owner of their annual ad valorem (a tax based on the assessed value of a property) and special assessment obligations. All local governments and special districts in Palm Beach County use this single tax bill. City of Boca Raton residents pay property taxes to a variety of different taxing authorities (see graph below).

Where Do Your Property Taxes Go?

Residents of the City of Boca Raton paid $465,076,396 in annual property taxes. The City of Boca Raton receives only $94.7 million of these total tax dollars, or 20.4%. The remaining 79.6% of your tax dollars go to other taxing agencies in Palm Beach County.

Property Tax Rates

The City of Boca Raton continues to have one of the lowest property tax rates for a full-service city in the state of Florida, at 3.8. In addition, the City of Boca Raton’s proposed Fire Assessment Fee is one of the lowest among comparable cities.
