2-Year-Old Dies After Being Run Over In Driveway: FL Highway Patrol

A 2-year-old boy died after being run over twice in the driveway of a Lakewood Ranch home Wednesday morning, FL Highway Patrol said.

LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL — A 2-year-old boy died after being run over Wednesday morning in the driveway of a Lakewood Ranch home, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

When the child was unable to open the rear passenger’s side door of an SUV in the driveway of a home on Anchor Bay Trail, he walked behind the vehicle around 8:20 a.m.

The driver, a 31-year-old Manatee County woman, didn’t notice the boy and backed up the SUV, knocking him over and running over him, FHP said.

The woman stopped the SUV and then continued backing up, running over the toddler again, this time with the front right tire.

She stopped the car on Anchor Bay Trail after noticing the boy in the driveway.

The news release didn’t describe the relationship between the driver and the boy.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene by Manatee County EMS, FHP said. The driver and a passenger in the SUV, a 6-year-old girl, were uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
