Live Music, a New Riverfront and Honoring the Mustache

There's something for everyone — and every day — this weekend in Bradenton.

If you plan on attending the grand opening of Bradenton’s revamped Riverwalk on Thursday — which everyone is going to do of course! – it's 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with live music, skateboarding, volleyball, tai chi, public art talk and walking tours.

But don't forget about the street party on Old Main Street!

Main Street Live (formerly known as Get Down Downtown) will be from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with drinks, plenty of food vendors and live music from Lauren Mitchell Band.

Old Main Street between Manatee and Third avenues closes to vehicles around 1:30 p.m., so don’t park there after lunch!

Here's what else is going on around town:

  • Ace’s Lounge, 4343 Palma Sola Blvd., has live music at 9 p.m. Friday from blues singer/songwriter Candye Kane, who hails from East L.A. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 the day of the show. Click here to buy tickets online.
  • Last Call Sports Bar & Grill, 2604 Manatee Ave. E., has a Poetry/Prose/Open Reading starting at 7 p.m. Saturday. If that’s not your thing, go there for the free barbeque that night! Event open to the public.
  • If your favorite NFL team isn’t televised on Sunday, visit one of the Bradenton area’s Gecko’s Grill & Pubs at Braden River Plaza at 4310 S.R. 64 East and Twelve Oak’s Plaza at 7228 55th Avenue East. Both locations have NFL Sunday Ticket. The Gecko’s have plenty of food, a full liquor bar, outside seating for smokers, tons of televisions and on Sunday their hours are 11 a.m. until midnight.
  • The party doesn’t end just because it’s Monday. The Distillery Tavern, 450 Old Main St., has drink specials until 7 p.m. including $1.75 domestic drafts, $2 wells and $3.25 house wines. At 9 p.m. the famous Mustache Monday begins. If you’re sporting a ‘stache get discounts on all Bacardi drinks and North Huckleberry Vodka. No mustache? No problem. The Distillery sells them for a buck and all proceeds benefit Southeastern Guide Dogs.
