'Adopt-O De Mayo' Celebration Planned at Manatee Animal Services
Free tacos will be available during the May 2 event.

Tampa Bay area residents on the hunt for new four-legged friends might want to check out Manatee County Animal Services as it celebrates Cinco de Mayo a little early.
The county shelter is pulling out all the stops for its “Adopt-O De Mayo” event this Saturday, May 2. Set to take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the 305 25th St. W. shelter in Palmetto, the event features $55 adoptions, five $5 surprise pups and eight lucky families will find their adoption fees paid courtesy of an anonymous donor. Music and free tacos are also part of the festivities.
Shelter staff are hoping to find 50 families for 50 dogs during the one-day event meant to curb overcrowding concerns. Dogs available for adoption have undergone the county’s Bright Futures Training Program and have all received certificates for socialization.
