America’s Deadliest Highways Ranked
Several of the deadliest roads in the country run through Florida, including two in the Tampa Bay area.

Tampa Bay area residents might be surprised to learn that Interstate 4 isn’t considered one of America’s deadliest highways, but a few other roads on the list will likely garner nods of agreement from local motorists.
To create its listing of the Most Dangerous Highways in America, the Auto Insurance Center looked at data supplied by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for 2014. The analysis was drawn from the administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).

The Auto Insurance Center estimates that one person was killed every 16 minutes on an American roadway in 2014. That statistic represents 32,675 lives lost in motor vehicle crashes that year.
“Although the country’s rate of traffic deaths per capita has been steadily declining since 1975, it’s clear that the current death toll is still too high,” the center’s report states.
