The conference is the largest gathering of America’s future skilled workforce and the ultimate recognition of excellence in career and technical education. The event in Atlanta brings together more than 19,000 attendees, students, instructors, government officials, and administrators.

He attends MTC full-time and will graduate from LRHS in May and MTC in June. Kornett has accepted a full-time position at Yellowfin, and these count as school hours at LRHS.

He was selected by his instructors to represent MTC’s Marine Science program in the High School Division at the State Leadership and Skills Conference. The conference was held in Jacksonville, FL between March 30 - April 2.

Kornett was asked what the most challenging part of the competition was, and he responded, “The most challenging part of the competition was understanding what each task was asking you to do. I tackled this by taking a moment to reread the instructions and not starting the task until I was able to process and perform what they were telling me to do.”

Johnny Kornett’s mother Robin said, “Johnny won first place in his division... It is very exciting and he is grateful for the dual-enrollment opportunity! He will compete in June in the National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, GA run by SkillsUSA.”
