• Crash involving Sarasota man kills bicyclist, according to FHP (heraldtribune.com) — A bicyclist was killed early Saturday morning on 53rd Avenue West in Bradenton after a westbound BMW entered the designated bike lane and struck him, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The 48-year-old Ruskin man died at the scene, while the 24-year-old Sarasota driver was uninjured and investigators have not yet said whether charges will be filed.    

• Pirates Send Utility Player Back Down to Minors (yardbarker.com) — A Pittsburgh Pirates prospect recently completed a rehab stint with Single-A Bradenton before returning to Triple-A and reentering the conversation for a big-league call-up. The Pirates just optioned utility man Nick Yorke back to Indianapolis after a rough series, and are weighing whether Bradenton rehabber Jhostynxon Garcia or fellow power-hitting outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez should get the next opportunity in Pittsburgh.
