BRADENTON, FL — Manatee County Utilities crews are working to repair a damaged sewer line after an estimated 300,000 gallons of wastewater spilled near a Bradenton intersection, county officials said in a news release.
The spill happened on Tuesday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., near 26th Street West and 60th Avenue West.
A third-party contractor installing electrical conduit hit a 24-inch sewer force main, causing the spill, the county said.
Utilities crews stopped the discharge at the damaged line Tuesday evening, but additional overflows have occurred at other locations in the collection system as crews work to manage wastewater flows during repairs.
The county has issued emergency purchase orders to bring in additional resources to help repair the line, recover discharged wastewater and restore normal operations.
Residents and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area of 26th Street West and 60th Avenue West while crews continue repair and restoration efforts.
