Audubon Adventures FREE for Elementary - Middle School Students

Audubon Adventures FREE for Elementary - Middle School Students starts Sat., Jan.10th at Felts Audubon Preserve in Palmetto

Elementary & middle school kids enjoy being in nature, learning first-hand about the birds, wildlife, plants, ecosystems, and conservation initiatives from trained Audubon naturalists.

We meet on the 2nd Saturday each month from Jan through May. Our first meeting is at Felts Audubon Preserve in Palmetto, but we’ll also explore shorebirds and other wetlands, too, so call Karen Fraley or Audubon past-president, Steve Black, call (ph: 376-0110) to confirm meetup location for subsequent Audubon Adventures for Audubon Adventure participants.

Parents will be able to chat with other parents, as well as observe the outdoor experience, too.

Here’s the line up of monthly topics we’ll explore:

  • January 10 – Wild About Birds! – make a backyard bird feeder to bring home, learn to look for field marks on birds,
  • February 14 – Great Backyard Bird Count – Citizen Science – bring a camera (we will provide for those who don’t have one). Participate with birders worldwide counting birds today!
  • March 14 – Hummingbirds – discover migration patterns, pollination tricks and more. Hopefully we will spot a hummer or 2 at the preserve!
  • April 11 – Raptors – the birds of prey!
  • May 9 – Celebrate Urban Birds

For comfort, wear closed toe shoes, sunscreen, hat/cap, bug spray. Bring bottled water & a bag lunch so you can munch during the last 30-minutes while the learning summary from that morning occurs in the Preserve. Parents may want to bring a camera to capture the fun memories!
