Baristas in Bikinis Create Stir at New Coffee Shop

The recently opened Florida establishment is creating quite a buzz.

A newly opened Bradenton establishment is serving up coffee, smoothies and juice with a side of controversy.

Cups O’ Joy, 6295 14th St. W., isn’t your average coffee shop. While it offers all the staples its competitors are famed for, baristas here aren’t issued typical uniforms of the trade. Instead, they’re serving up cups of Joe Florida style – clad in bikinis and lingerie.

The roadside shop opened earlier this summer and is drawing fire from critics and praise from fans who enjoy what baristas are serving up.

“Just what I want to put Bradenton on the map,” Sheri Clinard told the Bradenton Herald.

Customer Magdalena Carr, however, encouraged others to try the coffee before drawing conclusions.

For its part, Cups O’ Joy explains on its Facebook page that it’s “all about the smile and the good coffee.”

Cups O’ Joy isn’t the only Florida establishment making headlines for controversial decisions. Fort Myers’ Mad Fresh Bistro has been creating a stir with its policy of refusing to serve up ketchup to customers over the age of 10.
