Beach volleyball team enjoying first-year success

The Lakewood Ranch Mustangs are district champs in their inaugural season.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) beach volleyball team is enjoying historical success in its first year.

The Mustangs will host a regional playoff game against Cardinal Mooney at 4 p.m. on May 2 at the UMR Sports Facility after winning their first ever district title.

In the program’s first year the Mustangs hope to make a state championship run.

The team is currently 8-2 on the season.

Head coach Perri Hankins said, “It is impressive that we are district champs in the first year of our program. This group has put in a lot of hard work, has three signed beach players and one signed indoor player. We also have a mix of continuously improving young players which adds to the team.”

The Mustangs beat both Saint Petersburg Christian and Parrish Community, 3-0 to clinch the district crown.

Junior Katie Eckstrom said, “I'm glad that LRHS got to have a beach volleyball team this year, and I'm really excited that we were able to win districts the first year being in the program.”
