Bicyclist Killed on Cortez Bridge Identified

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man killed during a bicycle accident on the Cortez Bridge Friday night.

According to the sheriff’s office, James French, 52, was riding his bicycle east over the bridge around 8 p.m. when he “lost control of the bike and flew off,” an email from the agency stated.

French suffered a head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office was able to complete next of kin notification on Tuesday morning.
