Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Crash

A Bradenton man is in serious condition at a local hospital following a crash on State Road 70 at 18th Street Court East.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 10:03 p.m. crash happened as a Honda Accord driven by William Hudson, 33, of Bradenton was heading east on State Road 70 in the inside lane. The bicyclist, Jeffrey Gene Thompson, 54, also of Bradenton, was also heading eastbound, but in the center lane.

Thompson “for an unknown reason” veered into the Honda’s path, causing its front right side to hit the bicycle.

Thompson was taken to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries. He will be charged with a moving violation for not riding to the far right, the highway patrol said.
