Boy, 6, In Critical Condition After ‘Near-Drowning’ In Bradenton: Police

BRADENTON, FL — A 6-year-old boy was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition after “a near-drowning” at a Bradenton home Sunday night, police said in a news release.

The Bradenton Police Department was called to a home in the 3500 block of 24th Avenue West just after 9 p.m. after the child was found in a pool.

Family members were providing life-saving measures when officers arrived, police said. Emergency medical personnel then took over resuscitation efforts.

The boy was airlifted to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he remained in critical condition on Monday morning, police said.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. No criminal charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police urged residents to remain vigilant around pools and other bodies of water, noting that water emergencies can happen quickly even in familiar surroundings.

The department also stressed the importance of constant, undivided supervision of children around pools.
