Child Hit, Killed By Pickup Truck On South Sunshine Skyway Pier

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A 3-year-old boy was hit and killed by a pickup truck on the South Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier Saturday afternoon, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the accident happened around 4:50 p.m., when the child was walking behind a properly parked car trying to cross the pier’s northbound travel lane. He was struck by the front a Chevrolet S-10 pick­up truck, which ran him over.

The boy, who is from Bowling Green, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.

The truck’s driver, a 19-year-old man from Lutz, was uninjured in the accident. The investigation is ongoing, troopers said.
