Cortez Bridge: What Would You Like to See Happen?
The Florida Department of Transportation is holding a meeting to discuss repair or replacement options for Cortez Bridge.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL β The Florida Department of Transportation is hoping to gain some resident insight on just what should happen to the Cortez Bridge. With that in mind, itβs set a public meeting for early August.
The two-lane bridge is the focus of an FDOT project development and environment study. That study is looking at options for repairing or replacing the bridge on State Road 684. The study covers Cortez Road from Gulf Drive to 123rd Street West.
Replacement options for the bridge include three choices at present:

- A 21-foot vertical clearance drawbridge
- A 35-foot vertical clearance drawbridge
- A high-level fixed bridge within the existing corridor
The upcoming public meeting is set for Aug. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Saint Bernard Catholic Churchβs activity center, 248 South Harbor Drive in Holmes Beach. Residents who attend will be able to learn more about the options, ask questions and leave comments.
It is currently unclear just how soon construction might begin once an option is selected.
