Discovery of Man's Body Kicks Off Murder Investigation

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 40-year-old man.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a call about shots fired in the 2300 block of 1st Avenue East in Palmetto early Thursday morning. When deputies arrived, they found Lathawn Turner unconscious in a vehicle. Turner was pronounced dead by EMS at 3:38 a.m.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, the agency wrote in an email to media. Deputies ask anyone with information about Turner or his death to contact Manatee County Crime Stoppers at 866-634-TIPS or call Det. Ben Main at 941-747-3011, Ext. 2164.
