Dog Found Hanging From Fence

Its owners now face felony animal cruelty charges.

BRADENTON, FL – The owners of a dog found hanging from a Bradenton fence by its collar earlier this month now face felony animal cruelty charges.

According to the Bradenton Police Department, the case against Rick Arenas-Arroyo, 21, and Pedro Arenas-Guadalupe, 41, began to develop back on Dec. 11 when a call came in about a dog in distress. When officers responded, they found a dog hanging from a fence by its collar. They were able to save the dog, but the discovery kicked off an investigation into its owners.

The owners were traced to a home in the 900 block of 19th Avenue West, an email from the police department stated. While continuing the investigation, officers discovered three more dogs that were “living in deplorable conditions,” the email stated. Their outside dog enclosures had no food or water, police said. Broken glass was found on the ground and the cages had dried feces and urine throughout.

“The dog owners admitted that they have never sought any preventive medical treatment for their dogs and did not have time to care for them,” the email said.

Arroyo and Guadalupe were both charged with two counts of felony animal cruelty. Their arrests were announced Tuesday, Dec. 29. Their bond was set at $20,000 each.
