Driver Dies After Being Thrown From Truck In I-275 Crash: FHP

A Cape Coral man died after two pick-up trucks crashed Monday morning on Interstate 275 in Manatee County, Florida Highway Patrol said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A man died after two pick-up trucks crashed Monday morning on Interstate 275 in Manatee County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The crash happened near the U.S. Highway 41 exit just after 6 a.m.

A 38-year-old Cape Coral man was traveling west in the left lane of I-275 at the time of the crash, FHP said. At the same time, another truck, driven by a 46-year-old Tampa man, was heading west in the highway’s merge lane, entering from southbound Interstate 75.

Investigators are working to determine which truck changed lanes first.

The left side of the Tampa driver’s truck hit the right side of the other truck, the agency said.

The Cape Coral man was thrown from his truck, landing on the northbound paved shoulder. He was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, FHP said.

The other truck’s driver and his passenger, a 55-year-old Tampa man, were uninjured in the crash.
