Drowning Death Under Investigation

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an 80-year-old woman Sunday night.

Deputies say they received a call shortly before 9 p.m. from a home in the 5300 block of 89th St. W. When they arrived, they found Geneva Brown face down in the family’s pool.

Brown’s daughter lives upstairs in the home and went down to check on her mother that evening, a report stated. She found her in the pool and called for help. When emergency crews arrived, they pronounced Brown dead in an apparent drowning, the report stated.

The investigation continues.
