Durant High School Girls Lacrosse starts 2017 season with a positive focus

Durant High School Girls Lacrosse starts 2017 season with a positive focus

2017 is Head Coach Kiara Klingler's fourth year as Durant's coach. It's the team's fourth year as a varsity sport. In 2016 Durant High School finished second in the district after being third and fourth the previous two seasons. As with the boys program, this is the fourth year of lacrosse as a varsity sport.

Kiara stated from year one to today there has been a recognition of lacrosse as a sport itself. At first people would say "What is lacrosse?" "We've never heard about it". Today there is and awareness. Coach Klingler tries to get student athletes in other sports to try lacrosse. Three basketball players are playing lacrosse, two from soccer, two cheerleaders and one from the swim team. Three ex Coyotes Youth and Travel Lacrosse players are now seniors.

Players buy into a "Family" atmosphere with Durant Girls Lacrosse. This allows them to pick up on the skills needed to compete. Many players had never touched a stick before coming out for the team. The progress from day 1 as the season progresses is very satisfying. There have been several sibling playing together over the four years.
