Elderly Man Seriously Injured in Bradenton Hit-And-Run

Troopers are looking for help identifying the driver involved.

A 79-year-old Bradenton man is in serious condition at Blake Medical Center following a Wednesday night crash along State Road 70 and 1st Street East.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unknown vehicle was heading east in the right lane of State Road 60 approaching 1st Street East around 8:55 p.m. when the accident happened. At that time, Robert Muegel, 79, was walking south on 1st Street East, crossing State Road 70, using a walker for assistance.

While troopers say Muegel was improperly crossing the roadway, the motorist struck him and then fled the scene. The vehicle was described by a witness as a compact sedan, possibly a dark-colored Ford, according to a highway patrol media release.
