Goodwill partners with Girl Scouts for Little Black Dress event

Numerous women from the local media to mentor Girl Scouts interested in media careers, model in fashion show during the luncheon

Goodwill Manasota is partnering with the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida for Goodwill’s annual Little Black Dress Fashion Show & Luncheon. The event takes place at Michael’s On East (1212 East Avenue S., Sarasota) on Friday, July 10 at 11:30am.

Sixteen prominent women from the local news media – TV, radio, digital and print – have signed on to model during the fashion show. In advance of the event, each participant will be paired with a Girl Scout who has expressed an interest in pursuing a career in the media and communications field. The girls will interview the adult participants about their professional development and learn about what their jobs entail. Interview snippets will be aired during each model’s turn on the runway at the event. The duo will also go shopping together at Goodwill – the girls will be invited to give their opinion on potential outfits for the fashion show.

“This is such an inspiring opportunity for girls and women,” said Sue Stewart, Girls Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida CEO. “We have so many strong and successful women in the local business community – we’re grateful these women are willing to share their time, experience and wisdom with our girls. Our Girl Scouts are also leaders and will have much to share with their mentors. Many thanks to Goodwill for facilitating this opportunity, and for its continued partnership and support.”

“We’re so pleased to partner with an organization like the Girl Scouts, whose mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character,” said Goodwill Manasota president and CEO Bob Rosinsky. “By pairing each girl with a successful professional, she can learn more about a possible career path and feel more confident about setting and pursuing her goals. Goodwill’s mission is to change lives through the power of work; it is entirely possible that this event will change numerous young lives through the mentorship our media participants are so generously providing.”

Cost is $75/person; proceeds from the event to benefit both nonprofits. Call (941) 355-2721, ext. 104 or go to www.experiencegoodwill.org/events to purchase tickets online.
