How long have you been cooking? 35 years.
Do you cook at home? Yeah, but not that much. I’m here most of the time.
What is your favorite comfort food? Ropa vieja. That’s beef brisket, shredded, with a tomato and wine sauce, and Cuban spices.
Other than your restaurant, where else do you like to eat in Bradenton? I like to get seafood at The Outback (Steakhouse). We don’t serve much seafood here.
A message from Chef Coons: It’s been a great experience to work at a Cuban restaurant these past 2½ years. I’ve grown to appreciate Cuban food.
Other information: Jose’s Real Cuban Food offers dining in a comfortable setting, deliveries, take out orders, and catering. They accept all major credit cards and serve beer and wine.
Jose’s owner, Jose Baserva, added that they were waiting for word when his restaurant will be will featured on “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.” Show host of the popular Food Network show early in March, and it will be broadcast anytime within 30-90 days, Baserva said. He said he would keep everyone posted on the air date.
