Hookah Returns to The Cellar

Hookah helped put The Cellar on the map. And now it’s back.

The Cellar Bar, 4307 26^th St. W., announced recently that it has brought back its hookah practice along with 20 varieties of shisha, a flavored tobacco that is smoked out of the multi-stemmed hookah instrument. Flavors include grape, apple, watermelon, strawberry, lime and a dozen more. The cost is $10 per hookah.

While Hookah is legal for adults 18 and over, you can’t get into The Cellar if you’re under 21 – yet. The Cellar’s owner, Bill Hatoum, said he’s considering one or two 18+ nights at The Cellar. We’ll keep you posted.

The Cellar is open from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. every day but Sunday. It proclaims itself as the home of the $5 Long Island ice teas which come in 10 different flavors.

Here’s a quick look at The Cellar’s weekly specials:

`Monday: Free pool, $4 32-oz domestic drafts and $5 double tall cocktails.

`Tuesday: Reggae Night with live music from Democracy from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

` Wednesday: Ladies Night featuring $5 “bottomless cup” refills on wells and select drafts between 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

`Thursday: College Night with Beer Pong tournaments and drink specials.

`Friday and Saturday nights are Club Nights with DJ music and double tall drinks all night.

The Cellar does not charge a cover, but it does have a dress code. Saggy pants and long, solid T-shirts are prohibited. No chains, no biker clothing and guys have to have sleeves. For more information on the dress code, call The Cellar at 751-9111.

• Woody’s River Roo, 5717 18^th St. E. in Ellenton, has unveiled its food and drink menu for Sunday and Monday football. Check out the photos published along with this story to see the entire menu.
• The Party Formerly Known as Get Down Downtown returns for the 2012-13 season this Thursday night on historic Old Main Street from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The reggae-rock band Soul Purpose is this month’s live act. Just like the “Get Down” days, there will be a new band each month. The event has been renamed Main Street Live! Expect more food, plenty of fun and, of course, drinks from Old Main Street’s bars. Old Main Street between Manatee and Third avenues will close to vehicular traffic around 2 p.m., so you might want to relocate your car during your lunch break if that’s where you usually park.
• Ace’s Lounge, 4343 Palma Sola Blvd., has live music at 9 p.m. Friday night from Biscuit Miller & The Mix, this year’s winner of the Bassist of the Year from the Blues Music Awards. The show starts at 8 p.m. with the Joel Tatangelo Band, which plays a blend of Southern soul, rock, funk and blues. Tickets are $8 in advance or $12 at the door. Click here to get them online.
• The Distillery Tavern, 450 Old Main St., has NFL Sunday Ticket and drink specials all day Sunday until 7 p.m. Specials include $1.75 domestic pints, $2 wells, and $3.25 house wines! Pizza by the pie or slice all day and night.
• Some interesting notes, especially for the wine drinkers out there, about Pier 22, the restaurant-bar-lounge located on the city pier in downtown Bradenton: Every Thursday is Ladies Night from 3 p.m. until close at 10 p.m. featuring drink specials for the ladies all night long. From 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the dockside lounge ladies drink for free. Pier 22 also offers a free wine tasting on Tuesday nights and is hosting an International Wine Dinner on Friday, Sept. 28.
