Hurricane Irma In Bradenton: Limit Water Usage

Residents should use as little water as possible until power is restored from Hurricane Irma, the city said.

BRADENTON, FL — Residents of Bradenton living in areas without power should limit water usage until electricity is restored, city officials said in a statement Monday, a day after powerful Hurricane Irma slammed into the Florida coast. With power disrupted, lift stations may not function properly and excess water usage may cause an overflow of sewage, the Bradenton Public Works Department said.

Some 6.2 million Floridians lost power in the storm, at its angriest a Category 5 hurricane. Though the massive, 400-mile-wide hurricane weakened by the time it reached Florida, power lines were strewn like spaghetti up and down the peninsula. Bradenton officials said city offices should reopen by Monday.
