Inmate Faces Murder-For-Hire Charges in Attempt to Kill Witness

Roderick Hamilton allegedly tried to hire a hitman to kill a witness in his upcoming criminal trial, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

A Manatee County Jail inmate faces murder-for-hire charges after detectives said he tried to hire someone to kill a witness in his upcoming criminal trial.

Roderick Hamilton, 23, tried to pay $6,000 to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office detective posing as a hitman to murder the witness, investigators said.

Hamilton was arrested last year for aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with a shooting that occurred Sept. 13, 2010, at the at 3803 1st St. E. in Bradenton.

"Detectives began the investigation one week ago after receiving information that Hamilton wanted to hire someone to kill a witness" in his pending criminal case, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
