(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) freshman Khushi Talluru was named the winner of the annual freedom essay contest.

The contest is hosted by the Sons of the American Revolution Saramana Chapter and requires participants to analyze and discuss what freedom means to them. More than 140 students participated in this contest.

Taluru was honored at a special ceremony held on Saturday, Dec. 18 and received $10,000 in prize money.

In her essay, Talluru explored what it meant to be free. As well as answering the prompt, she elaborated on her own beliefs and spread a more personal message.

“I find that freedom is a beautiful thing. Freedom holds so many layers of value that we take it for granted. Everyone born with it should acknowledge how blessed they are,” said Talluru.

Talluru plans to save her prize money for college. In the future, she would like to go into medical writing.
