Local student starts community environmental initiative

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The Youth Environmental Action Committee of Manatee County (YEAC) is looking for members in the community. YEAC is a group of Manatee County students, aged 14-18, that helps create an eco-friendly community.

Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) junior Ally Adamo founded the committee in late 2020. Adamo stated, “I am excited to get this project in action and progress Manatee County’s environmental goals. Hopefully with a youth-led voice we can achieve this.”

YEAC’s goal is to spread awareness about climate change and environmental issues that affect our local community. They will be working closely with the Manatee Parks and Natural Resources Department and environmental professionals to develop solutions to environmental issues.

YEAC will hold community beach cleanups, advocate refillable water bottle stations at schools, and reduce the use of plastic in Manatee County. They will also host educational webinars and eco-talks.

There will be monthly meetings held after school at the Robinson Preserve NEST. The first meeting is to-be-announced in the coming months.
