(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Monday, Oct. 18 Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Mustangs will get to utilize some new water bottle refill stations located around campus thanks to the Youth Environmental Action Committee (YEAC).

The YEAC is a committee organized in coordination with Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources and consists of high school students throughout Manatee County.

LRHS senior Alexandra Adamo founded the committee last year to help spread awareness about current environmental issues that impact the community.

The group will work with LRHS officials to replace some of the school’s water fountains with bottle refill stations.

Adamo stated, “For this project, we wanted to cut back on single-use plastic in schools and encourage students and staff to use reusable water bottles at schools.”

This project obtained a grant through Manatee County for their funding and is also installing stations at Braden River and Manatee high schools.

“Our next project is going to be an outreach booth to spread awareness about the dangers dolphins face at boat docks,” Adamo explained.
