Manatee Assistant Football Coach Resigns

He stepped down Monday after reporting the alleged gun incident.

The Manatee High School football team will have to do without assistant coach Hank Mallol next season.

The former law enforcement officer stepped down Monday after reporting an alleged cover-up relating to a student bringing a pellet gun to school, the Bradenton Herald is reporting.

Mallol, the paper reported, learned of the alleged cover-up through a text message he believed was sent to him by mistake.

“The next morning (Monday), I met with school and law enforcement officials at Manatee and showed them the text. During that time, I said I’ve got to move on and stepped down,” Mallol told the paper.

Mallol’s resignation follows last August’s non-renewal of former head coach Joe Kinnan’s contract. Mallol is the fourth assistant coach to resign in recent months.
