Police, Church Team Up to Help Santa

The seventh annual Honoring the Badge drive has begun.

The Bradenton Police Department and members of Kingdom Life Christian Church are hoping for a little help to spread Christmas joy this year.

The two have teamed up yet again for the annual community outreach program “Honoring the Badge.”

The goal this year is to raise about $5,000 to buy Toys ‘R Us gift cards for children from at-risk families in Bradenton, according to the city’s website.

Children who are selected for the program will be selected by community leaders. They’ll get to accompany off-duty, uniformed police officers to Toys ‘R Us on Dec. 16 to buy Christmas presents with their gift cards.

Each child will be paired with an officer “who will help the child select a toy for under $25 and then take it to the cash register to pay for it.”
