The Safavieh Samarkand rug will be up for bids on eBay from May 2-9, during Goodwill Week

Goodwill Manasota recently received the donation of a Safavieh Samarkand rug valued at approximately $8,000. The organization will auction the item through eBay’s charitable site from May 2-9, during the organization’s annual observance of “Goodwill Industries Week.”
Details and instructions for bidding will be available at ExperienceGoodwill.org after the auction begins on May 2, 2015. The site will display the appraisal documentation and photos of the rug, as well as the link to bid on the item.
The rug measures 12’ x 15’ and originates from China. The multi-color floral rug is “Senneh hand-knotted with an ivory field soft blue border with chrome dyes,” according to an appraisal conducted by John Murse, president of Rugs as Art, Inc. Utilizing retail demographics and research, the appraisal states similar Safavieh rugs, also in good condition, can sell for as much as $20,000 in regions around the world.
“We strive to be good stewards of community donations – this means that when someone gifts an item to Goodwill, it’s up to us to put those donations to good use. We are always searching for creative ways to expand our reach and, ultimately, our impact,” said Bob Rosinsky, president and CEO of Goodwill Manasota. “Goodwill is a place to find everyday items and unique treasures – simply by shopping and donating your unwanted items you can have a huge impact on the lives of those in our community.”
The proceeds from the sale of the rug will support Goodwill’s mission of changing lives through the power of work.
