SCF Honors Winter Class of 2020 with Drive-Through Ceremony

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will honor its Winter 2020 graduates with a drive-through commencement ceremony from 2 to 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 11, at SCF Bradenton. Lineup will begin at 1 p.m. at 60th Ave. W. The entire ceremony will be broadcast live on Sarasota Community Radio WSLR, 96.5 FM and WSLR.org, with streaming video available through the college’s Facebook page, Facebook.com/StateCollegeofFlorida. Students, family and friends are encouraged to call the dedicated SCF Graduation Hotline at 941-752-5330 in advance to share congratulations and words of wisdom that will be posted on SCF’s social media accounts.

SCF will take proper safety precautions and practice social distancing while celebrating this milestone for graduating students. Everyone is required to wear a mask and always remain in their vehicles.

The campus will be marked with signage, and volunteers will be stationed to help facilitate an orderly traffic pattern through the parking lots while Maverick the Manatee, SCF’s mascot, cheers on more than 1,200 graduates. Participants are welcome to appropriately decorate their vehicles to show off school spirit and encouraged to honk in celebration.

“Our graduates have shown incredible strength and dedication to their education and deserve to be celebrated,” said SCF President Dr. Carol F. Probstfeld. “We want to extend our congratulations and create an unforgettable experience that everyone can share.”

This broadcast and unique ceremony will draw elements from SCF’s traditional commencement programs with speeches and awards by college dignitaries recognizing exemplary student achievements. SCF will announce the well-deserved recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Award, historically nominated by faculty and staff.

SCF graduates from spring and summer 2019 are also invited to participate. Winter 2020 graduates will receive their diplomas by mail.
