State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Veteran Services and Student Veterans of America will host the College’s ninth annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony Friday, Sept. 11 from 8:40-9:15 a.m. There will be no in-person attendance for this year’s event, which will instead be streamed live online at Facebook.com/StateCollegeofFlorida.

The guest speaker for the ceremony will be retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Kerry Costello. Costello served in the Marine Corps from 1975-79, then attended U.S. Army Officer Candidate School. From 1981-93, he served in Panama, Italy and Germany before retiring from the service. Costello was recalled by the Army in 2002 and deployed overseas four times in the next 12 years, twice each to Afghanistan and Iraq. Costello is enrolled at SCF pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Public Safety and Emergency Management.
