Serious Injuries in Bradenton Crash

The accident happened Monday evening at the 51st Avenue East and U.S. 301 intersection.

BRADENTON, FL – Six people were hospitalized with injuries ranging from minor to critical following a Monday evening wreck at the intersection of 51st Avenue East and U.S. 301.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Ray Treharn, 56, of Gibsonton was heading west on 51st avenue East approaching the U.S. 301 intersection just after 6 p.m. in a Ford Ranger. At that time, a Chevrolet driven by David Betancourt, 22, of Bradenton was heading east on 51st Avenue, approaching the intersection.

Betancourt’s vehicle entered the intersection on a yellow light, a highway patrol report stated. As the light cycled to red, Treharn’s Ford continued through the crossing, the report said. Treham’s vehicle struck the right front of Betancourt’s before clearing the intersection.

Treharn was cited for running a red light and failure to show proof of insurance, the report said.

Treharn suffered critical injuries and was taken to Blake Hospital. Betancourt suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Lakewood Ranch Hospital. Several passengers in Betancourt’s vehicle were injured. Alan Betancourt, 14, suffered serious injuries while Gabriela Beltran, 15, suffered minor. Miguel Beltran, 16, and an unidentified 21-year-old woman were critically injured, the highway patrol report said. All of Betancourt’s passengers are from Bradenton.
