Suspects Stole Wallets, Credit Cards From Shoppers: Manatee Sheriff

Investigators are seeking suspects who distracted their victims at retail stores and stole their wallets, Manatee County sheriff said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — Detectives are trying to identify several people who used a distraction technique to steal wallets and credit cards from unsuspecting shoppers, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Two incidents of wallet theft by distraction were reported to the agency between Aug. 21 and 24. Both victims were elderly women shopping at retail stores.

The suspects are believed to be two Black women and one Black man, the sheriff’s office said.

While asking the victims questions, they reached into the victims’ purses while they weren’t paying attention and took their wallets.

The suspects used the stolen credit cards to make purchases at nearby retail stores.
