Tampa Catholic Boys Varsity Lacrosse open 2017 with two wins.
The Tampa Catholic Varsity Boys Lacrosse team head coach Ted Koontz is in his 5th season as head coach. Ted started coaching at the recreation level and worked his way up with TC to take over as coach. The team has had recent success with one 12-2 season. The goal is to win the district in 2017 and advance in the playoffs from there.
Coach Koontz, and assistant coaches Craig Deimer and Matt Daly, see the team's strength as "Balance" with two lines of Middies and a solid defense. Fielding a full squad of lacrosse players is terrific. Freshman are for the first time coming into the lacrosse program with rec and travel experience. There are 2017 freshman starting which was not something seen very often in the past.
Ted stated basic stick skills is the toughest thing for any new lacrosse player to learn. Over the last 5 yrs better and better athletes are choosing lacrosse.

HALAX has been terrific in bringing lacrosse to the area. Five years ago TC had to drive hours to find teams to play. Now there are dozens of teams in the Tampa area with Polk, Pasco and other areas adding teams. Tampa Catholic draws players from all areas around Tampa.
The team opened 2017 with a 12-10 win over Steinbrenner followed up by a 19-5 win over Bloomingdale. Coach Koontz see the start as a "yardstick" of the team's progress and something to truly build on.c
