Tipster Who Called Crime Stoppers In 1997 Sought: Manatee Sheriff

PALMETTO, FL — Detectives are looking for the person who called Crime Stoppers in March 0f 1997 with a tip about a 1996 homicide investigation.

At the time, detectives were investigating the death of an unidentified woman whose body was found in water near U.S. Highway 41 and I-275 in Palmetto, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office news release. The case turned cold and no arrest was ever made.

The sheriff’s office won’t disclose other details about the case for investigative reasons.

Detectives are reviewing old files and believe the person who called in an anonymous tip in 1997 may have more information that is critical to solving this 26-year-old cold case, the agency said.
