Train Track Defect Found At Bradenton Railroad Crossing: City

Weeks after an unrelated train derailment, CSX Transportation will shut down a Bradenton railroad crossing for repairs, the city said.

BRADENTON, FL — CSX Transportation has identified a track defect in a Bradenton railroad crossing, the city wrote Thursday in a Facebook post.

The defect, which was found at the 9th Avenue W. crossing between 5th Street W. and 6th Street W., will require a track closure so the company can make repairs.

The track will close in the area starting Tuesday at 6 a.m. and will reopen by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the city said.

“This is a total closure meaning no traffic will be allowed across the track until the work is complete,” the city said.

Traffic in the area will be rerouted with detour signs in place during the repairs. Drivers are asked to plan around the track work.

Based in Jacksonville, CSX Corporation and its subsidiaries offer rail-based transportation services over 20,000 route miles in 23 states, Washington, D.C., and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, according to the company’s website.

This track defect was discovered just weeks after an unrelated seven-car track derailment in Manatee County.

A Seminole Gulf Railway Train went off the tracks in the 7200 block of 16th Street East, near Tallevast Road, on Feb. 28.

A tanker carrying 30,000 gallons of propane overturned during the incident. It was eventually uprighted and removed from the site.
