Turning Points Appoints Three New Members to the Board of Directors

BRADENTON – Turning Points announces the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors. Joining the Board of Directors are Marisa Powers, Sarah Colandro and Erin VanderVeen.

Marisa Powers is an attorney in Blalock Walters’ litigation and labor & employment practice areas. Her practice involves the litigation of businesses disputes, probate, estate and trust disputes, employment, and construction law related controversies. Marisa represents individuals, developers, builders, retail stores, non-profit organizations, title companies, and other businesses. Marisa is on the board of directors of Manatee County Bar Association and Florida Association of Women Lawyers, Manatee Chapter. She has previously served as and is the current co-chair of Turning Points’ Hats and Heels Luncheon and Fashion Show. She is a native of Bradenton, Florida.

A native Pennsylvanian and graduate of Marywood University, Sarah Colandro has held positions at some of the nation’s largest and most respected architectural firms. Before becoming a Principal at Fawley Bryant, she was the Director of Interior Design for the Hillier Group and Interior Project Director for Ellerbe Becket, both located in Washington, DC. Sarah is currently serving on the National Board of Directors of the American Society of Interior Designers, and the International Board of Directors for the Interior Design Continuing Education Council, and held former Board positions at chapter levels of ASID and the International Interior Design Association. She regularly mentors interior design students, and has made educational presentations to associations and community groups.

Erin VanderVeen is the Director of Operations at It Works! and oversees their international business in 20 countries. She joined the company 6 years ago just prior to their move from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Bradenton. Erin graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in International Relations and Spanish and is currently pursuing a Corporate Master of Business Administration (CMBA) at Florida International University. Erin is one of the founding members of Cheers for Charity, a Women’s Giving Circle with the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund. She is also a member of both Manatee Young Professionals (MYP) and Sarasota Young Professionals (YPG). Erin travels around the globe with regular visits to the It Works! international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland but in between work and school she loves to be outdoors exploring.

Marisa, Sarah and Erin join current Board Members; Sandy Kirkpatrick, Mark DeHaan, Margie Genter , Rod Tait, Jeannie Slater, James Bruen, Dr. Anthony Ferretti, Steve Wilson, Pat Osburn and Erika Lisch.

Turning Points and our Bill Galvano One Stop Center partners provide a remarkable variety of services designed to assist individuals and families on their path to financial stability and independence. Turning Points is the one stop shop for preventing and ending homelessness in our community. We provide day resource services (such as hot showers, laundry services, clothing, food), employment services, rental and utility assistance, veteran’s services (employment, housing and childcare), and free medical and dental care for the uninsured and underinsured. A total of 9,645 people received help last year with critical services targeted to the essential needs of people in crisis.
