Vanessa Baugh Named Manatee County Commission Chair: Report

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — District 5 Commissioner Vanessa Baugh was selected to serve as the next chair of the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners, the Bradenton Herald reported.

New Commissioner James Satcher nominated her to the role. Her appointment was confirmed by the board in a 5 to 2 vote at its Tuesday meeting. Commissioners Reggie Bellamy and Carol Whitmore voted against her appointment, reports said.

“I want to thank everyone who voted for me to become chair this year,” Baugh said. “I want us to move forward. I want us to get along and be respectful to each other.”

She added, “We need to work together for the taxpayer, get things done and make sure we don’t increase taxes on the taxpayer. There’s a lot more and I look forward to getting those things done.”

Baugh won re-election to a third term as commissioner of District 5. In this role, she represents Lakewood Ranch, Myakka City and areas of East Bradenton.
