Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has been hard on the campaign trail in recent weeks with his heart set on winning the Republican nomination for president in 2016.

His dedication to that cause, however, doesn’t seem to be stronger than keeping a promise to his kids. That’s why, according to the Daily Mail, the pigskin came out while Rubio was attending an event in a subdivision near Des Moines.

“My sons are supposed to be in football practice right now,” the paper quoted him as saying. “And I told them, you will practice today, I just didn’t tell them it would be in Iowa.”

As that “practice” continued, Rubio, a former player himself, instructed his young sons while tossing the ball. Rubio also threw a few passes to neighborhood kids. One of those passes, didn’t quite land as expected, knocking the tiny receiver right off his feet when the ball bopped him in the head.

Bloomberg Politics was quick to point out on Twitter that “the kid’s okay!”

Rubio faces stiff competition heading into the Republican primary. Donald Trump leads the pack with 24 percent of the party’s support, according to the latest CNN/ORC poll. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush trails at 13 percent. Rubio is currently tied in the polls at 8 percent with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
