Woman Dies in Apparent Skyway Bridge Suicide

A 58-year-old Bradenton woman is dead after Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies say she jumped from the Skyway Bridge Friday night.

According to the sheriff’s office, a motorist saw a woman jump from the bridge’s center span around 7:30 p.m. and notified authorities. Deputies found an abandoned Nissan Cube on the bridge. The body of Toni Bennett was later recovered following a joint effort by the sheriff’s office, U.S. Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue and the Florida Highway Patrol.

Bennett was found in the waters under the bridge.
