Woman Turns Herself In After Motel Robbery, Beating

Sherica L. Garvin had been sought in connection with Tuesday's attack, in which a man lost his pants — and $3,000 cash.

A 20-year-old woman turned herself in Thursday following the beating and robbery of a man at a Bradenton motel earlier this week, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Sherica L. Garvin, who is on felony probation for a 2009 attempted robbery in Manatee, was sought in connection with Tuesday's attack at Siesta Inn and Suites, 2303 1st St. E., in which two armed suspects attacked a 32-year-old man and made off with his pants — and about $3,000 cash.

Garvin was being held at the Manatee County Jail on $500,000 bond on a charge of armed robbery, as well as for violation of parole.

The male victim had made arrangements to meet a female friend at the motel on Tuesday, according to a sheriff's office report. The woman told him she was leaving the room to get some ice and make a phone call, and when she returned a short time later at around 8:50 p.m., two unknown suspects armed with handguns also entered the room with her, the report states.

"The female said that they appeared out of nowhere," the report states.

One suspect struck the male victim on the forehead with a gun while the other took the female into the bathroom, according to the report. The male victim "fell back onto the bed and told the first subject to take whatever he wanted," the report said.

"He then decided that he might be able to overpower the subject, so he rushed him and pressed him against the wall," the report continues. The first suspect then yelled for the other suspect, saying, "Rico shoot him."

When the victim heard this, the sheriff's office said, he ran out the door and went to the front desk of the hotel, where 911 was called. The female met him there shortly afterward. The two suspects ran east to the rear of the building.

When the male victim finally returned to the room with sheriff's deputies he noticed that his pants, which he had not been wearing during the incident and which he said contained about $3,000 in cash in the pockets, were not in the room.
