Worker Killed in Apparent Lawn Mower Accident

Deputies say the mower overturned, dumping the man into a pond in Heritage Harbour.

Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating what appears to be an accidental drowning in Heritage Harbour.

The incident occurred just before noon at River Heritage Boulevard and Grand Harbour Parkway. Deputies say a 40-year-old lawn maintenance worker was mowing the grass on a large riding mower next to a pond when it appears the mower overturned.

“He was trapped under it in approximately 4 feet of water,” an email from the sheriff’s office to media stated.

The man’s coworkers had not seen him for approximately an hour when he was found in the pond.

Investigators say the death appears to be an accidental drowning.
