
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal home invasion that left one dead and three injured Sunday evening.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident unfolded around 8:54 p.m. at 7665 Chase Road, Apt. 1, in Lakeland. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found four victims who had been shot by two unknown men.
During the course of the investigation, deputies learned that several people were at the home when the men approached, demanding money. The suspects began firing shots at those in the home, striking four.

Kody Zawalski, 20, of 7118 Odoniel Loop was pronounced dead. Two people were taken to a local hospital in critical condition and one other suffered minor injuries. Police are not releasing their names at this time.
“The crime appears to be a robbery-home invasion,” an email from the sheriff’s office stated. “It appears the residence was targeted.”
